i was recently approached to design some furniture pieces for a manufacturer. the designing i can handle but i am a little lost as to what is common to ask for regarding design fees. with royalties i have heard that 3-5% is common. does this sound about right??

From my experience 5% royalties is typical for for furniture designs from a reputable designer and includes the right to identify the furniture as designed by … This is paid on the trade price and excludes the cost of fabric. My experience is based on relatively high end furniture which will carry a trade price of over EUR1,000 and sells in fairly low volumes via interior decorators.
