Now that Hypershot is no longer, what would you use?

I was looking into Hypershot but they can’t sell it due to disagreements since January. What’s a great rendering/animation software to use for products and also environments? inexpensive ones?

Keyshot is just like Hypershot, almost 100%.

I thought they couldn’t use the real-time rendering technology anymore though?

Keyshot is the portion that CAN use that technology - so it’s effectively the same product now owned by Luxion.

Bunkspeed is creating a new product called Shot which will be based on different technology.

Either way, I’m a Showcase Fanboy - chaingunning out renderings as we speak.

It was Luxion’s technology licensed out to Bunkspeed but Bunkspeed was not paying their royalty so Luxion just shut them out and released keyshot on their own. Im interested to see how the bunkspeed “shot” works out but I don’t think it will be out until later in the year.

Ahh yes, I confused ‘Shot’ with ‘KeyShot.’ Silly name shenanigans…

So Shot and Move is like the 2k version of Keyshot with animation and rendering?
I’m looking for something that can render and animate.

whats a good plugin for rhino?

Has anyone else had trouble getting a demo from Luxion? I wanted to scope it out and make sure it was the same as the Hypershot everyone has come to love. Multiple email requests from two different users and no response. Bunkspeed’s reaction time and support was never amazing but this doesn’t bode well.

Nope - I had my license within seconds - are you sure your junk mail filter isn’t blocking it? Pretty sure it’s an automated server so if you’re getting nothing I’m thinking it’s an issue along those lines.

Try this. It seems like a pretty small time operation over there.

I wish Google would develop a rendering program like keyshot/hypershot the way they came out with Sketchup(easy & cheap). With their recourses they could come up with a nice little program at an affordable price point.

Has anyone ever used IDX Renditioner, Kerkythea or Twilight Render?

This explains the nightmare I have had to get my license moved from one computer to the next.

Bunkspeed gave me a temp license for Move which is a nice piece of software, but more complex than I care for it to be. I don’t need the animation overhead.

If I am going to go that route, I will stick with 3DS which is my old friend.

Are there any free rendering applications that can render google sketchup models ?

I know KeyShot can do sketchup but its not free, i think a render would be really good for my current design project.
Thanks

Kerkythea is free and you can use it for Google Sketchup but I have not used it. Ill be interested to see how it turns out. I use sketchup for packaging design because its so quick and easy.

an email i got today…

On January 1st, 2010, Bunkspeed ended the sale of HyperShot. There were many rumors as to why this happened. The bottom line - the technology for HyperShot was licensed from a third party and that relationship ended suddenly. We are now utilizing a more powerful technology which will produce more accurate photorealistic results and allow more flexibility. We are very close to the beta release of HyperShot’s replacement, Bunkspeed Shot, and will debut it at the IDSA Northeast conference on April 16th and 17th in New Jersey (details below). Beta will follow soon after the conference.

Bunkspeed Shot is an all new generation technology that utilizes many Bunkspeed developed core components from our flagship animation and automotive products, HyperMove and HyperDrive. The new Shot UI and workflow will become the foundation of all our products. Real-time ray tracing will be integrated into our entire product line, which will be complete later this year and will be called Bunkspeed Shot, Move and Drive.

Bunkspeed Shot is a significant upgrade to HyperShot. It has unlimited rendering resolution and many new features and key innovations that we know will be appreciated and enjoyed. Shot is more user-friendly, much more intuitive than HyperShot, and designed with workflow efficiency in mind. It will also be compatible with your older HyperShot files. We look forward to a successful launch.

Watch a real-time demonstration of Bunkspeed Shot:

Ooooo looks good, The UI looks nice too, somehting that was lacking on other renderers i tried.

I’ll keep my eye on that, Thanks
