Just read a piece on Awards on the Design Observer, basically suggesting to abolish all awards, at least the way they are now.

That is a good read.
Paying some kind of fee seems fair because the coordination of those things is time-consuming. I think Red Dot takes it too far so we stopped participating, same thing with IDEA. There are many other competitions that cover their costs in other ways so we stick with those.

Relative to 'design competitions' I like the idea of 'peer review' or whatever you choose to call it. I do not like the idea of any organization - IDSA, etc., churning out competitions as a revenue stream
