Tunes to Design By

I just bought the new Perry Ferrell’s Satellite Party album Ultra Payloaded. Its awesome had me rocking out all afternoon.

Made me wonder what are you listening to? I am always looking for that next album that inspires.

A few bands/albums that do it for me right now:

Nine Inch Nails - Pretty Hate Machine (classic)
Dave Matthews - Crash
Rusted Root - When I Woke
31 Knots - The Days and Nights of Everything Anywhere

Recently I love everything from the swedish band “the knife”, I have heard three albums, “the knife” , “deep cuts” and “silent shout”, really good music. Reminds me when Bjork started and was new and exciting.

i saw pfsp on letterman a while back, and was totally surprised. i can’t beleive that guy’s still at it. good for him.

music for me:

we’re lucky in sea-town to have one of the best public radio stations anywhere KEXP… they stream online, check’m out… their programs are pretty cool too. http://www.kexp.org

latest cd’s i’ve bought

white stripes - icky thump
at the drive in - relationship of command
hiroglyphics - 3rd eye vision (lost my old copy)
donisaur jr - the new one… can’t remember what it’s called

Beanfield
Beat Pharmacy
Lemongrass
Mark Farina

Most of the time I’m listening to the Beatles or John Lennon. Revolver, the White Album, and Imagine are most common. Some Tupac in there sometimes.

For those who listen to music while they sketch, do you listen on an MP3 player? I tried that but I found it’s much easier to concentrate if the music is coming out of speakers.

y’all are going to hate me but I have seriously tuned into Percy Faith.

If anyone has xmradio, escape is great; it is all old time chill out music.

I am talking about big band/classical/musak/instrumental versions of popular hits.

It is better than trance, down tempo and more.

this is pretty much my music collection, which i love each and every one of these albums and listen to them regularly :

When I’m trying to conceptualise something, I prefer silence, or accoustics are most. I get easily distracted by lyrics, especially if it’s a song I like a lot, and before I know it I stop thinking about the project and just start singing along.

Some light music is good for mindless sketching/coding though.
