Coincidentally there was an article this summer about some classics actually loosing value despite the recent “classic car bubble”.
The 1964 to 1969 Mustangs were cited as the prime examples. There are many dealers in europe who specialised in importing muscle cars while the euro was strong. They oversupplied their market with early model Mustangs. Most of them or not nearly as nice as this fastback, but there are over 500 of the on offer in germanys mobile.de as we speak.
They were really a rare sight when I was a kid. Only G.I s or Huggy Bears had them…
Coworker of mine was finally able to drive in his ten year rat rod project. It’s super low and just smells like steel and gasoline. So fun.
Mid-20s (I think) Ford body with an early Dodge motor. Transmission is from a Chevy, I think, too. I can find out more details if anyone is interested.
The owner of the 356 was great to talk to, an older German man. He made a point to tell me that he drives that car all summer long and has the rock chips to prove it. Which on some level made me cringe because of all the work that went into restoring it, but it also made me smile because things like cars are meant to be experienced just as much as admired.
Any idea on how to tell if the 993 was an actual Ruf or if it was just a 993 with Ruf wheels?
The Ruf had different bumpers. They had some intakes just ahead of the front wheels and just behind the rear wheels. At least that’s what I can tell from the internet;)
funny thread We are iin the west loop of Chicago and we see a lot of Bently’s Tesla’s and even last month a Fisker Karma which was one of the first electric cars and sexy too.
I love them. I spotted one on the 101 here a few weeks ago. Plus you get the designed by Giugiaro pedigree and a boxer 6 engine. C’mon man, it seems like you! Look at those side windows.
My mother in law had an SVX and we took it out in SFO a couple times. When the young drifter kids working the parking garages saw it come in there were all “daaaaaymn son that’s a Subaru”. It had an amazingly lovely interior which reminded me of a well-thought-out bento box. On the other hand the maintenance (I heard) was expensive and it was a real gas guzzler. MIL sold it before I could make her an offer. Didn’t know it was Giugiaro!
Palm Springs was the single most memorable city of my Californian holiday in 2015. I loved to immerse into that intense MCM architecture and furniture scene. But after some days I was also shocked by the “static display of wealth and taste”
April 2015: Thunderbird graces pavement in front of Eichler home.
As one can see even the cars are carefuly placed “ornaments”. To topp it all off no-one over there seemed to endure the disruptive power of kids. I totally enjoyed to be sans the two little monsters for 2 weeks, but within the Coachella Valley the only little ones seemed to be the ones of the Latinos who work in the background jobs. When I came back into Rancho Mirage from watching sunset over the desert I saw lots of them riding shotgun on the pickup trucks of their mums and dads but during daytime they just diseappeared.
Seems a strange utopian fiction that is stuck in our theatrical illusion of Sinatras 1965 forever.
Mo-i, I think the place attracts a certain type of person. I first went there 15 years ago and the town was in utter disrepair. 9 out of 10 of the homes were falling apart. Now 9 out of 10 of the homes are completely remodeled. Good thing those people with taste and no kids and some cash moved in eh?
