I see a lot of wood looking material used in the modeling and design process to emphasize the image or a particular portion of the image or display. Can you tell me what this is or where I can find it?
Which online design supply store offers the best inventory for an industrial designer?
I’m not exactly sure what you’re asking… But if you’re referring to the materials used in the rendering of wood grains, most CAD programs have a section of materials to use. At least I know that SolidWorks has them.
Im sorry I should have been more specific, I am looking for a physical real hands on type product that will allow me to bend and shape miniture scales of model furniture. I hope this helps. Im just now thinking, could I use paper or card board to get the same effect? I just fear its not going to look as good.
My guess would be a veneer. You can soak them to bend them a bit, and certain woods work better than others. You will need to practice to make sure the chosen material will be able to bend enough and wont warp too far out of shape when dried.
Okay I got the link, its to PRATT Institute and its the pic on the left hand side, in the background you can see design drafts on the wall and what look like wood vaneer??? I guess it could be paper, however if I can find a vaneer that will allow me to bend almost to 90° that would be awesome for my project.
Looks like veneer to me. Bending 90 degrees isn’t the issue. It’s how tight a radius do you want… Those shown are nice and big. They probably soaked them in warm water or steamed them first (there are videos for that online).

Warrenginn thanks for the feedback. I thought it looked as if it was wood vaneer. I will have to check out the videos too. Any ideas on where I should start to look for that wood vaneers? You thinking art supply or home improvement? Thanks
There are papers with embossed wood textures. Check out your local craft store’s scrapbooking section. Or your local commercial printing paper supplier, but the craft store will likely be cheaper for small quantities.
