I think it would be really helpful to me to see percentages of folks using what for 2D and what for 3D and how often you are doing 3D vs. 2D work. Sometimes it is hard for me to choose being fairly early in my carrier. What is normal customers seeing from other designers…
Agree with IP: I use Illustrator and PS for all sorts of things that SolidWorks and Pro/E can’t do, and vice versa, and frequently drop output from one into the other. Hard to imagine using one and not the others.
A bit like asking “Which do you wear more often, shirts or trousers?”
You could even argue that Illustrator and Photoshop aren’t CAD at all, but graphics programs (I’m aware there’s debate on this point). From my point of view, more useful polls would be:
A) Which 3D CAD package do you use the most? (Pro/E, Alias, SolidWorks, Rhino, CATIA, SolidEdge, Unigraphics, etc.)
B) Which 2D graphics package do you use the most? (Illustrator, Photoshop, Painter, CorelDraw, etc.)
What I can do is compile new poles after this initial one…and I can keep narrowing it down after that…especially for those that are paying attention like yourselves…
I was very aware of the CAD debate of 2D and 3D…I think always initially you have to grab peeps attention first…we can def break it down after this initial pole.
I also understand the need to go back and forth between programs but if you had to really choose a typical work day and really figure out percentages…which would come out on top…??
