Talking about needs you see that isn’t found on cars… serious or weird ones.
Like in the other thread, I want variable level honks cus I hate them, but do use it in certain occasions.
Then I want a reflector, like a mirror at the back to reflect highbeams or truck lights straight back into their faces. !@#$@#
Then I also want a LED message board at the back to tell them to #@#$ off or express my little appreciation to those who give way to me, especially hot chicks.
Next, something I really want, is a speed limiter like those on F1 cars when they enter the pits. You can floor your car however you want but it will keep it below the speed limit you’ve set. So since I don’t like cruise control, I can set mine to 75mph in MI and will never be pulled over on regular situations. It can also be used as a proof if some dickhead cop decide to be jealous of your spanking hot sportscar.
sometimes i wish i have a “go straight ahead” signal… there are signals for turning left and right… but sometimes i need go straight ahead to cross a junction and there are traffic from everywhere…can’t really signal left, then right, then left, then right…
that is actually a nice idea. I would like one as well.
I would like some ice shield so that my car never builds up with snow. Remote starters are great and all. But…I live in the city where I park blocks away from my apt and a remote starter would do me no good, plus it still takes a while to heat the car up and i still have to axe all the ice/snow off AND you wont find too many places that will install a remote starter in a manual car. I wanna wake up to a snow storm and find my car perfectly free of snow.
Trip odometer that dials to set and counts down
Built-in chilled water dispenser and trash-bin.
Retractable wet-vac under the seat.
Under-car fuel-port for refueling without leaving the car.
Built-in universal gadget charger/storage.
Wireless sync with home network when parked in the garage.
CG: Did you ever read about the Ford Freestar concept from last year? It featured a vacuum and trash-bins…it may have had chilled water, I can’t recall.
The first thing that occured to me reading your wants was that post from a few months back about an induction charging mat. Sounds like that would be perfect mounted on a dashboard. Toss your gear on it and just keep driving.
Sunboar: aren’t the hazard lights the straight-ahead signal? hehe
My ideal car would be something like a Lotus 7 or maybe an Atom. So I want less on a car, not more.
A super-durable outside shell that looks as good as the current painted body panels.
Something that can be scraped against, bashed, crashed, sprayed with sap, tar and brake fluid, and still looks like brand new after ten years with just simple water/soap washing.
I’m sick of inconsiderate people dinging my doors in parking lots. Friends have had cars keyed. Tree sap and road tar are a bitch to get off. Waxing is a pain (although I do it religiously). I just want that “just waxed” deep shine to stay and for the finish not to be so easily scratched, dented, and dirtied.
(Saturn’s alternative looks crappy and cannot be produced to close enough tolerances, resulting in huge ugly panel gaps.)
cg: I’ve had the same thought. I had come to it from a business perspective though. The fleet sales, rentals essentially, from the big 3 hurt their vehicles resale value. Why not design a brand specifically for rentals? Take the platform of an economy car, redo the interior to be easy to clean and durable. Put all kinds of safety systems in the car (EPS, traction control, ABS) to try to reduce the chances of wrecking it.
I just want it to go from A to B, reliably for years. Looks as good as the day I bought it 5-10 years from now (clean classic style (not uber-trend style) with a durable shell as was mentioned before, and simple durable mechanicals)
I want all the junk gizzmos that outdate in 6 months removed (GPS systems, iDrive, XM), but some kind of flexible electronics interface (blue tooth touch screen or something) that can work with anything (portable GPS/cell phone, iPod, xm, tech dujour)
I want it to defy the laws of physics and be a sexy hard top convertible two seater that hold a lot of stuff and goes really fast
I want hydrogen fuel cell power
… the straight ahead signal is a brilliant idea (maybe a centrally mounted flashing light, like the center mounted rear brake light)
A few of these are available in some form, but just not in my car.
I want a variable transmitter for jamming cell phones, in car video, and audio systems that blast bass so loud that all you hear is the license plate rattling.
I want dial-a-tint windows linked to my car alarm so that when I arm the system the windows go totally black and instantly clear when I unarm.
I want adaptive tires that change their tread pattern according to the driving conditions including retractable cleats for ice
I want the interior of the Volvo S40, the exterior of the Infiniti G35 coupe.
I want a special license plate that tells police that I’m such a good driver that I can do whatever I want - no tickets, no stopping.
A car that couldn’t hurt or kill you.
One that an 8 year old or an 88 year old could safely drive.
One that improves the road and environment every time you drive it.
88 year olds can’t drive no matter what you put them in, I know, I’ve almost been hit by several while driving this week alone.
Theres nothing scarier than seeing a gigantic cadillac flying towards you and the only part of the driver you can see is a little bit of white hair sticking up over the steering wheel… YIKES.
Thats why my dad took my grandmother’s keys away and pulled the battery out of her car.
