"What are you designing now?" 2008 Edition

I’ve been fishing through old threads, circa 2004, and I stumbled across this rather interesting thread that never really took off.

The title of the thread (started by mattdesign) was simply
“What are you designing now?”

"Without going into too much details, what are you designing right now? "

So, I ask you again Core board, from professionals, to students, and everyone in between, in 2008, let us know:
What are you designing right now? (without getting into so many details, company name, brand, launch date, etc…)

…and just for inspiration, back in the day, on Wed Sep 01, 2004, a young cg was designing

A drug-pumpin’ medical doo-hickey (UI and ID.)

and on Thu Sep 02, 2004 12:20 am, a young Yo! was

coordinating and designing most of a line of summer footwear (fulltime job)

a couple of basketball shoes (helping some friends out)

a mid-engined sports car (freelance)

and an aspiring young man who we all know so foundly as skinny was designing

4 new portfolio projects to show current skillset. Can’t use the professional work, all under non-disclosure.

I can get on board for this,
I am in the inbetween set, and work on industrial lifting and mooring systems, (cranes and winches) at work. and In my freeish time, I have been designing cloth diapers and infant apparel.

I can draw a lot of parallels between working with engineers and diapers. About half the time they are both full of… lol

Diapers and cranes… that’s the sort of workload diversity that turned me on to ID.

Keep em coming!

Hmmmm…lessee…

We are working on:

  1. a pimp tracker (seriously, that’s what we call it)…a companion product for ankle bracelets.
  2. A Wii-style computer game accessory
  3. a 72" touch screen LCD
  4. A power metering system (about to go into production)
  5. A taxi meter-type gizmo

A bunch of boring engineering programs

Ya…we’re busy. Any mech eng guys out there looking for contract work in the vancouver area

A performance basketball shoe
an advanced footwear project
a messenger bag
some eyewear
2 automotive projects
a branding project

… and I’m thinking about (but not yet designing) a theft proof bicycle.

Today it’s fewer doo-hickeys and more howdya-do-that’s. (ie. Systems and User Experience.)

Cool topic…

Inclusive DAB Radio
Non Literal Product
A light

When those hit the shelves, count me in…

a weather forecasting device
a kitchen-centric consumer electronic
a family of pet care products and accessories
an iPhone accessory
a capabilities presentation

-Some big hard stuff that’ll be in most peoples kitchens
-Some small soft stuff that’ll be in some peoples cars (Yo, these reference images look like your old sketches, very recognizable)
-Some cheap plastic stuff that’ll stay hidden most of the time and eventually find it’s way into the garbage can.
-Some hot stuff that’ll be in the ipods and ears of those that know whats up.
-More portfolio stuff since the hot stuff above is classified.
-Catching up on The Wire representing my hometown. 2 1/2 more seasons to go.

Sorry, was kind of a round the bout reference to this:

some good stuff, all around. Cool to read what others are working on.

this is fun…

condiment dispenser- wooo
merchandising/packaging/storage/dispensing solution for food product
brand new category…motorized lawn care thingy
surgical tools
RV hvac system
portfolio stuff because the above will take too damn long to be public

not a god damn thing.

except maybe a clock, thing…kinda…sorta.

Cool topic.

currently…
An electric bike
Another alternate to the plastic bag…although this is different enough to be interesting
Boating accessories
Fuel cell related devices

An automotive accessory
A golfing accessory
A desk top toy
A light therapy product
A safety syringe

… how many of these do I wish I was NOT designing is another question…

A restriced games controller.
A piece of street furnature for the Commenwealth Games in Gasgow

Its nice to be doing some design finaly, my course has been pretty anti-design so far.

in the pipeline:
22 foot powerboat and 30 foot power catamaran
