to print or not to print, that is the question...

does it make sense to prepare and send out a printed portfolio these days? or is a digital portfolio the norm? newly graduated and very broke…

Definitely print teasers and have a print portfolio to bring with you. Even if doing a digital presentation, gotta have a backup in case of equipment issues.

I recently had same issue. I would agree with skinny on printing teasers and having portfolio ready. But to go along with this, sometimes for a company or a contact you don’t have there address but you have there email that a friend gave you etc… I ran into this, so I had my teaser uploaded online so that they could click link an view (file to large to email). I would recommend having teaser as a pdf to email also with the print outs. A link to a website is also helpful.

Mm

For the actual interview I don’t mind seeing a candidates portfolio on a laptop that they have brought in, especially if they have set it up so that everything is ready to go and with a nice way to present it. However you need to have the printed version ready if anything goes wrong. That has happened with one guy I interviewed before, he opened up the laptop and it wouldn’t wake up and he didn’t have a printed portfolio so I had to wait ages while he was trying to sort out the problem.
