SW Save as / save as copy problems

Hi all,

This still seems to confuse me after testing out different saving options.
In a part document, to simply click ‘save as’ and rename the file will produce two files that are identical but are named different. Any editing done to any one of those files unaffects the other and each file acts independantly as though they have been both made from scratch

The other option is to click ‘save as’ then click the ‘save as copy’ checkbox then save the file as a different name. Again you have 2 files that are named different but are identical with any editing done on any one of the files acting independantly.

what is the difference of using or not using ‘save as copy’?

Save as - creates new part file with all changes made since last save and automatically replaces previous part file in open assembly.

Save as copy - creates new part file with all changes made since last save but closes the part file and is not referenced in any assembly.

3rd option - File-Find References-Copy files-Preserve directory structure… creates a copy with same filenames, in different directory, of every file you specify.
