Study abroad in Germany????

I’m an Interior-design student in Vietnam, and i’ll graduate 2 years later. I intend that after graduating, i’ll find an oppotunity to study Interior Design in Germany. Because money is a very big problem with me, and as i know that tution fee in Germany is free, so i think that’s a good chance for me to study in a developed country with modern education programs. Now things i’m still confused are whether i should study in a German university after graduating a Vietnamese university with the same course (interior design), if i do that, is it wasting my time. Besides, another choice is getting a job in Vietnam and waiting to earn enough money to study an Interior Master Course in Germany or other European countries. Could u give me an advice what i should do?!!
I haven’t studied German yet, but i think if i can decide exactly what should i do, 2 years is enough time for me to prepare.

Hi Amii,
after you graduate from your university in Vietnam, you should come to Germany and look for a Master’s program here. But you have to qualify. Academic expectations in Germany are quite high (and so are the language skills we require). I have seen many foreign graduates who were having trouble to even qualify for an undergraduate program in Germany. I’ve also seen highly qualified foreign applicants as well. Much depends on an excellent portfolio.
Two or more years of work experience and near-perfect German would put you into a better position.
Please also make sure that what you want is the German angle of (interior) design, not just German taxpayers’ money.
You will need a minimum of 600 Euros per each month of your stay, to cover basic expenses for food, accommodation, and transportation.

Thank you for your advice so much. Well, when i read your reply, i really wanted to do that. But as i said that money is a very big problem with me, i hope i can study abroad without too much money from my parents, besides, tution fee of any Master course is very high, never free, therefore i wonder whether i should take a course at certain German Design university after graduating in Vietnam ( tution fee of undergraduate course is free in German as i know). And the Vietnamese education program is absolutely different from the German one, so it’s so hard to qualify for the Master course in Germany right now, so i need to prepare very well. What do u think about that? I will try my best to qualify!
Besides, i have a friend in Germany ( he’s not studying design), he told me that i can get enough money for living cost by part-time working there, what do you think?
hope for your advice!

You could check the websites of the German Academic Exchange Service (daad.de) and the Goethe institute (goethe.de). They would tell you about stipends to study in Germany and even stipends to get free German classes prior to studying here.

You can also apply for stipends for English-speakin countries. Why not have a look at the Fulbright Foundation, for example.

Bachelor and Master programs are mostly free in Germany; universities charge a small registration fee, in the future they may charge 500 Euro per semester.

Working to make money is not a good idea, because your education here would be paid for by the German taxpayer, so we want your full committment.
If you want to come here only because it’s cheap, please revise your academic priorities.

Thank u very much for all your help. In fact, u know, the first thing has made me interested in Germany is that this country is one of countries most famous for design. And fortunately, if i have oppotunity to study abroad in Germany, my parents will not run into serious difficulties of finance. I’ll check those websites u gave me carefully, thank u very much indeed.
