someone paid big bucks for that.
I know! Lets go ahead witht the first sketch that is layed down on paper!
Genius! Wish i was that good!
Progression or regression? Who knows.
You could argue for and against this one for ever and still not come to a conclusion.
Ives 1, Starck 0
Practically useless, definately regression in my book. Form before Function.
With emphasis on pretty things over usability and human factors it’s no wonder why I haven’t found a design gig yet, lol.
bitter?..
No I’ve only been looking for a month, there’s no doubt that I’ll get a good job soon.
It’s just that I was dumbfounded recently to learn that many Firms would rather have someone who creates wonderful sketches (little idea as to materials or manufacturing), than someone who creates well thought-out innovative and practical concepts.
Not sure I agree with the usability/ human factors comment. Care to elaborate?
Seems to to be an extension on an idea from the Macintosh mouse, where the whole top surface of the mouse is a button, Is there a usability issue if you bisect the surface and split it into two buttons?
Center wheel is nicely colormatched to center stripe… is it positioned wrong?.
By first appearances it looks to actually be one of the few useable designs Stark has produced. Its suprising, I was expecting more of a “sexually” inspired shape that has no basis in reality at first glance; instead its seems he hasn’t gone far enough…shapewise.
Welcome to the real world where design has regressed into a commodity used to feed the gaping Maw of Consumerism
Does anyone else think it is really ugly? Not sure I like the look of any of Starck’s stuff really.
same first impression there, guest. i’m not really a fan of starck, but this mouse… it doesnt look good or feels good. maybe its the photo.
I can’t comment cus I have not seen it or used it yet.
I like it - beats the crap out of the ugly DELL thing i have - I think it’s also better (gasp!) than the new apple one with the three buttons I saw recently…
Why would you want to “cleverly conceal” a scroll wheel? Would you cleverly hide your keyboard? Why hide an input device??
As mentioned before, it seems like an evolution of the Apple mouse (which is still a very clever design). Looks very plasticky though. Cant tell without seeing first hand
we live in the age of the rockstar designer… it’s designed by starck= it must be good
Starcks objects lately have been a bit distant from what his celeb was established on. The mouse is what it is nothing spectacular or “WOW” I would be surprised if Starck actually designed it. More than likely his team designed it and he just gave the OK.
Well anyone remember the Midwest district conference where his target line was introduced. It was entitled “SOLD-OUT” that is what he did with his designs and reputation sold out to corporate greed, and his designs (regardless of if self designed or supervised and signed off on) suffered from the necessity to reduce manufacturing cost to a bare minimum… as we all will, though
Sounds like you’re really open to the feedback you got when you weren’t hired.
It’s just that I was dumbfounded recently to learn that many Firms would rather have someone who creates wonderful sketches (little idea as to materials or manufacturing), than someone who creates well thought-out innovative and practical concepts.
It all depends on the firm and their method of work. Some firms are more blue-sky than others, others will make you function as an engineer aka CAD Monkey. Not only do you need to look for a firm that will hire you, you also need to look for one you will fit into and can continue to learn and refine your skills.
However it is hard to beat the flash of awsome sketching, and rapid fire concepting, especially for fresh out of school designers…they will have senior designers to “polute” their creativity with design restrictions and limitations, and they will learn to be great. Its harder to teach a designer to loosen up and free his/her mind from the restrictions when they need to blue sky.
“I was expecting more of a “sexually” inspired shape”
oh? change the color from grey to flesh and what do you see?
this board is severely lacking in experience.
Yeah yeah, all hail the master!!!
Igues my mother would be proud…I totally over looked that aspect. but now that you put my mind in the gutter, I see multiple references…not to mention
