solidworks materials editor

I am new to Solidworks and am trying to create a custom material with the specs of what the company already uses. I can’t figure out how to add new physical properties to a material however. Any suggestions?

you need to create a new data base.

this’s from the SW help:

to create a new data base:
In a part document, click Edit Material on the Standard toolbar, or click Edit, Appearance, Material.

In the PropertyManager, under Materials, select a material, then click Create/Edit Material.

In the dialog box, on the General Information tab, under Database Selection, select .

In the Save As dialog box, type a name for the database file (default extension .sldmat), browse to a folder, then click Save.

You can specify the default location for Material Databases in Tools, Options, System Options, File Locations.

Click OK, then go to step 2 in the next procedure to add a custom material to the database.

\

to create a custom marterial
When you create a material, you derive the properties from a SolidWorks default material, then change the properties as necessary to create a different material.

In an open part, click Edit Material on the Standard toolbar, or click Edit, Appearance, Material.

In the PropertyManager, under Materials:

Click an item in Select a Material Database to specify the material library where you want to create a material.

Expand a material classification, then select a material.

Click Create/Edit Material.

Set the properties as necessary on the General Information, Visual Properties, Physical Properties, and Crosshatch tabs.

Click OK.

Click OK to close the PropertyManager.

to edit a custom material

You cannot edit SolidWorks default materials. You can, however, edit materials that you created.

In an open part, click Edit Material on the Standard toolbar, or click Edit, Appearance, Material.

In the PropertyManager, under Materials:

Click a database you created in Select a Material Database to specify the material library that contains the material you want to edit.

Select a material that you created.

Click Create/Edit Material.

Set the properties as necessary on the General Information , Visual Properties , Physical Properties , and Crosshatch tabs.

Click OK.

to remove a material

In a part with a material applied to it, click Edit Material on the Standard toolbar, or click Edit, Appearance, Material.

In the PropertyManager, under Materials, click Remove Material.

Click OK .

The material is removed from the part and the material name is removed from the Material icon in the FeatureManager design tree
