I am wondering if it is still worth applying to an Industrial Design job ad that I saw on IDSA.org that has been up for several weeks now. If am good in there eyes will they dump me for consideration and go for the individual who is equally good who applied sooner than me? Its probably the interviewing schedule… has to be done soon. I guess.
thanks
Yes, timing can work in your favor, but who knows what their timeline for hiring is? They could be so busy they have not even started to look at all the responses to the posting, or they could have made someone an offer already.
To put this as simply as possible: If you send your stuff in, you have a chance. If you don’t, you have no chance.
I think the candidates they are looking for have already applied. Not to be a downer. They are pretty speedy about getting back to you too. Good luck, if you do apply.
thats terrible advice. you’re wasting time of the HR manager if you’re obviously underqualified or trolling for jobs. those applicants who waste my time with the attitude ‘well, it doesnt hurt to apply’ will have their names flagged.
remember, you only get one chance to make an impression.
awesome, and what are you planning to do with all of the flagged names? and who is “obviously underqualified”? at most, all i can tell is that RM is under-confident.
and please remember, you only get one chance to make a FIRST impression.
Quite often we get repeat applicants who apply 2-3 years down the road. Believe it or not, people forget they’ve applied to the same place a month earlier. Needless to say their duplicate applications are again filed away in the ‘no’ bin. Those applicants that are ‘flagged’ don’t usually make it past me, let alone senior designers and Design Dir.
Those that are underqualified have poor sketching, poor graphic layout, lack of attention to detail, unable to show some type of process, don’t have attractive photos, etc.
