service design

I’m an industrial designer from background,
And next year I’m doing an extra master in service design.

I don’t want to work in a design office, nor in an event office.

Now my questions:

  • where on earth are the most service start ups?
(I want to get more experienced into launching services before starting my own company)

  • like there are famous design studio, are there also famous “service” studios?
(I mean this as well as in the meaning of service design, as on the financial side starting up a service)

I’m not too sure what you’re asking here… The majority of businesses offer a service in some way or other, services are everywhere. I couldn’t really pinpoint a particular location as the mecca of service design. The only place that sort of comes to mind is Silicon Valley and all the internet start-ups, they’re all services, though few people actually know about service design in that field unfortunately. Only a matter of time though.

Service Design hasn’t spread as well in the states as it has in Europe, particularly Britain, Netherlands and Scandinavia. Though it’s getting there, I think SCAD just started the first service design degree.
As for the ‘famous’ service design companies, check out

The Guardian recently did a great feature on SD, check it out here - http://www.guardian.co.uk/service-design

Hope this helps…
