schools already full?

hey there!

this may be a pretty stupid question but I noticed that a lot of people already know if they got accepted or not even before the deadline expired…

I was planing to wait with my application a bit and send it in just before the deadline! of course now I am a bit worried that the schools will be full and that I can’t get in even though I send my stuff before the deadline!

so my question is this, do I have better chances of getting in when I send in my appication early?

by the way, I am applying to schools in the US!

thanks

I second the question,
I sent all my aps (for Grad ID) in an Jan 14th. For deadlines on
Jan15th(Stanford, NCstate),
Feb 15th(IIT) and
March 15thGaTech)

And am wondering when I will hear back? Any Idea how long it typicaly takes? has anyone heard from the schools I listed?

Thanks

I doubt that the seats are full for schools in the US. Early admission helps the admissions dept forecast the number of students to expect. I’d encourage you to continue planning to apply if the deadlines are not up yet. There would be anohter round of reviews of applications after the published deadline.

IIT will begin reviewing their applications ideally by the first week of march if not earlier. you will hear by the end of the month if not by the first week of april, at least by email. While reviewing a portfolio/application by itself is not time consuming, the administrative details in preparing hundreds of applications for the review committee take a certain amount of time, anywhere from 4 to 6 weeks.

I’m sure the same applies for all the other schools you list.

I doubt the schools are full yet if the deadline has just past or the deadline is coming up…but make sure you get your stuff in BEFORE the deadline.

Also, check the school’s admissions webpages; some schools actually say they review applications in the order that they get them and that the earlier you get it in, the more consideration you get for admission as well as aide. Then again, some schools just wait to review until after the deadline, so yeah, just check the websites, and if you’re really worried, just CALL the admissions offices; that’s part of the job of the people in the admissions office, to answer prospective students’ questions.
