So I am browsing my Feedly as I do every morning an notice two new releases, one by Polk and one by Harman/Kardon.

Strangely, both projects are called “Omni”.
Am I missing something here? Is this a coincidence? Are Polk and Harman/kardon somehow related? What is going on?

Well actually my confusion was less about possible similarities between the products which you might wanted to clarify by posting the writeups but rather about the naming.

Is “omni” a general term, describing a category or a branded name for a specific product line?
I have never heard that term before and now I see it on two products in one day…

I don’t get how two competitors can name their products the same…

Omni is a Latin prefix meaning “all” or “every”.

It’s actually not that far fetched they would arrive at that same name in a brainstorm about same product… Probably just a coincidence.

It’s obviously an homage to this design classic:
