In a recent poll of brit art critics, Marcel Duchamp was named the most influential artist of the 20th century. His master piece? The Fountain, a urinal laying vertical.

I think this is fascinating from an ID perspective because someone else designed Duchamp’s art. It just took his vision to show the normal person that it was art.

Will Jonathon Ives be named the 21st centuries most influential artist, or will we need another Duchamp to show us the way again?


Um, keep in mind that we still have 95 years left for the most influential artist of the 21st century to show himself.

That said, I’d say Jon Ive is definitely the most influential of the past ten years, and probably will be for at least that long again.

I was attempting humor in my example of Jon Ives. Although he was named the most influential Brit last year, so who knows…
