awesome… esp when he gets to the 3d maps and what not, you could see how this is going to change a lot of things…

and supposedly, the technology is inexpensive. it would definitely be a better way of interacting with computers…

think of all the diiferent things that could be done with something like this…

I wish he would have elaborated on the accessibility of the technology. When you look at things like the Cintiq, it doesn’t seem like what he was using would be remotely inexpensive.

This does look like the kind of thing that will drive computer hardware sales for consumers. As it stands, there aren’t too many things that consumers do that require more than mid-range power to perform reasonably well. But with this crazy interface, people would need high-powered video cards and powerful processing.

There would also be some cool opportunities to design devices and software to interact with this thing. A force feedback glove comes to mind.

Coincidentally… the software for that has been around for a while… it’s just a matter of making the hardware work the way you need it to…

gloves, gyro mice, touch screens, etc would all make for cool effects on that. The only think lacking is that being a true stereo display

but with vista on the horizon (yes pun?) higher graphics cards will likely be the norm, so it likey won’t be a problem?

really??? what is it called?

Look into thinks like…

www.spheresite.com

http://honeybrown.ca/Pubs/BumpTop.html (bumptop)

and of course there have been 3d desktops for linux forever…

those are cool (will these be included in vista?) but i think the exciting thing about things like this:

is that a user would not be necessarily limited to a single input tool (pen, mouse, or trackpad) at a time…which also make it possible for multiple users at a time

like having a single large table screen, where various people could be doing there thing independent? of what the next person was doing…

Large format touch screens are no new thing either really…

Perhaps it’s not as far off as one might think… Between BumpTop and a large touch screen (not just a digitizer) you could have exactly what they had in the first video :smiling_imp:
