New product development process?

Hi All,

So I’m basically a mechanical engineering student, specializing in design. In our syllabus, we cover stuff on product development, which is all good, except for the one shortfall. Real industry analysis. I mean we do study past journal cases of companies, but it bugs me not knowing how companies really work today.

I’m really referring to new product development here. Cause over in my country, which is pretty small, industry is really made up of the big MNCs. Yet, working within most MNCs, you barely get a chance to truly understand the front end product development processes since they most often take place in the headquarters based in the company’s home country.

So, really out of my curiosity to learn more, how does the whole new product development process really work in a typical consumer product company?

Taiwan?

Nope, even smaller. singapore:)
