new drawing

just looked back a page at the first things you posted. i like the combination between old school chalk and guache rendering a la Noyes and Dreyfuss with the almost graf street art style. very interesting.

Just wanted to give you some props! nice and different indeed!

Thanks. I have some new stuff I need to post.

Here are a few new spacecraft sketches I’ve been working on.

Sweet! I like the third one down best, it be pretty cool if it had a back hatch like a cargo plane so you could load smaller vehicals or mining equipment or something. Keep them coming, Nice!

really nice,i like the first one.
the rest three remember me a movie series of the 80’s “V”,with Jason Donovan.

it would be interesting see you transition from a very vivid 2d to sculpture of any media.

Great work

Cool stuff man. I agree with all of the positive comments above, here’s a few things I think would make them better.

I feel like a little more contrast in line weight could help pop these out, also, the line work looks like it got a little tight. I would also like to see a little variety of form in the exploration. Right now these are all iterations around a common form language that is a little familiar.

Thanks for the comments!

I was initially inspired by the Countach and a ship from Space Precinct. I sketched these at lunch with a pencil so there not that refined.

My goal is to make a studio scale model of my designs. I’m not happy with the designs yet but I have more ideas.

YO, I read that there was a general rule for thicker lines. Is that so? I usually do cartoons so I would make a thick outline but not sure which of the lines to thicken.

thanks!

JESTER

Someone on here stated a guideline for line weight that went something like “If you can put something behind it, it gets a thicker line…” something like that. I think it is a good rule to start with, the bottom edge of wings, inside edge of air intakes… don’t be afraid to get loose with the line work, or calligraphic, use thick to thins, heavy to light weight…

I redrew these in my sketchbook in pen.

I think the forms are getting a lot more sophisticated, especially in the thumbnail sketches. Do you have the book "Lift Off"by Scott Robertson? If not, order it today, worth every penny!

Thanks. The only reason I am doing all these drawings is because of meeting Scott Robertson at Comicon last year. Before that I only drew cartoons and graffiti.

After seeing his vehicles and seeing some of the Product Design stuff, I was hooked!! Now I’m trying to learn the basics.

I got both his hard cover books and the Hot Wheels book he did.

This year I got to meet Daniel Simon. He’s got an awesome book coming out in December called Cosmic Motors!!

Here’s the new design. This is the one I’m going to build. It will be about 20" in length. 1/18 scale. I’m using a 4" Star Wars figure as a pilot for now.

JESTER

cool man… would love to see the in process of the build!

Starting on the engines. Below is the sketch of what it will look like.

JESTER

careful now…

I’ve been studying some old character model sheets from Disney, MGM etc. and redrawing them. First off, my son draws them also so it’s fun to sit and draw with him, second, it’s a great learning experience studying the classics!!

Here’s what I have so far.

JESTER

A bit off topic but here’s a train I just finished.

Watch out.

Walt Disney’s frozen head may defrost itself, find a host corpse, and sue you for using “his” work.
