New BMW 3 series and i3, thoughts?

I thought this deserved its own thread. It’s such a departure.

Interestingly enough the car will be called the 3 series, but the electric version will be called the i3.

They will be on different platforms, but look the same.

The electric version will get over 400 miles of range (it has a massive battery).

A very new face… not as simple as the concept car unfortunately.

The interior feels very fragmented, not super cohesive. There are also a bunch of totally different steering wheels based on trim level. This one has vertical spokes?

But I think this might be one I have to see in person.

See it in the round here:

official BMW released design drawings… I assume these are all sketched over CAD.

My first impression was to wonder why they showed one that had been in an accident. There is something off with the headlights that make them look askew from some angles.

The back and sides look nice. It reminds me a lot of the Alfa 146, but slightly worse proportions.

The steering wheel looks dumb in this context. It’s what I would I expect an intern to propose. The rest of the interior looks nice enough.

I do wonder about the positioning. I was just watching a video about the travails in the NA market. It seems like there is an opportunity to do something that presents a better value proposition.

yah, this was the concept car… so much clearer of a theme.
