I’m a student in the UK, studying industrial design and am doing a research project at the moment into; 'The aesthetic/design qualities of consumer products and how they appeal across different cultures.’ I am looking in particular at mobile phones.
I have devised an online survey and would appreciate it if people interested would complete it for me. I will post the results for all to see after the project is complete.
Just took your survey, and I am quite interested in your results as I have conducted quite a similar study in the past…
I do have some comments on your survey…
Although question #10 adequately addresses various features of a phone, the scale that you provide for users to rate the phones seems a little off. It may just be me, but when I think of “quite important” it is MORE than “important”. You may want to think of changing that to something like “somewhat important” (although this may throw your results off).
Question 19 is a difficult question for users to answer, because there are no OBVIOUS relationships between the groups of phones, and the user must scroll up to make a choice between the 4 groups. As a result, I think your answers will be all over the place on this question.
All in all, it looks pretty good. Nice to see someone else with a concern in this topic. I bet the results of this survey are going to blow your socks off with surprise. Remember to diversify your survey-taking population, and especially try to avoid designers as your only population because they are hardly representative of the general population’s opinions - especially concerning aesthetics.
Same. Also, on what scale is the last question set? 1 being the most ‘interesting’ or 4?
The way you asked your questions are a bit shallow though - not unambiguous. I’d expect better from a last-years’ academic.
Whether a phone for instance, has a camera or not, has little to no importance to me if the quality of the camera is below par compared to standalone cameras.
When I find a function or feature not important, this does not stop me from buying a phone that actually sports this feature.
