I’m looking to specialize in designing furniture. I will either go to school in Miami or Chicago. Can anyone help me find out which schools are known to specialize in furniture design in these areas?
If you really want to specialize in furniture by going to a school recognized for that, neither Miami or Chicago would even be on my list.
I would be looking at RISD in Rhode Island or Kendall in Grand Rapids.
This may not be what you’re looking for, but is worth a mention anyway:

The Chicago Bauhaus Academy (no affiliation with the Bauhaus in Germany or IIT) has an apprenticeship program in “Studio Art Furniture”. It’s a decidedly non-industrial program & approach, but what you learn about design, philosophy, and construction could be applied to just about anything…
Thanks for your comments. . . I sincerely appreciate that input. . .Chicagobauhaus looks intriguing.

Concur.
The Chicago Bauhaus program may not be what you are looking for. Come visit, and talk to some past participants, and attend a Chicago Furniture Designers Association show before you decide to move here for furniture design.
i would not be hesitant to investigate a school called MCAD in Minneapolis. This school/furn program is one to be reckoned with. The shop capabilities are second to none. Any process you want to learn is at your fingertips. But don’t be shocked by 20,000 dollar tuition
chicago area: kendall in grand rapids, mi
miami area: scad in savanah, ga.
