Living robots powered by muscle

I’m sure some have seen this article over at BBC, but for those who haven’t, it’s worth a look.

Scientists have managed to grow muscle on skeletons of plastic or metal. The bio-bots then get stimulated somehow (article doesn’t say) and they move around.

The scientist invisions using these to power small devices, although he isn’t clear there either. Perhaps he imagines feeding the bio-bots an organic food, and have them then power an electric generator.

I believe this is significant since our typical product criteria would be dramatically altered with biological or nano innovations. How would you use a micro muscle?
