Job post language

Browsing good old Coroflot I came across this job posting. Some of the language used in the JD raised an eyebrow.
Hiring managers - would you find it necessary to include a paragraph like this?
Job seekers - does this motivate or discourage you to apply?

A little highfalutin’ if you ask me - listing off their VC backing is so 2023…

Eight Sleep is an intense environment: we’re demanding and ambitious, which means we ask a lot of ourselves and one another. This means fantastic learning, achievements, and career growth, but it also requires a significant commitment. Our dedication, drive, and intensity rivals those of Olympic athletes. At Eight Sleep, we have Kobe Bryant’s mamba mentality - we always aim to be at the best 1% of what we do. If you’re looking for a 9-5, this is not for you. Our employees report working up to 60 hours per week. If you want to be challenged and pushed harder than ever before, we invite you to apply.

I get the feeling they want you to fit 40 hours of work into 60 hours. That’s fine, but they are going to get the applicants that are OK with that.

From a hiring manager point of view, in interviews, I always try to explain how employees will be evaluated and I always ask how will I be evaluated. If I need to be at the office 60 hours to get a good review, I’d rather know before I apply.

@slippyfish please link the posting. It needs to be outed publicly. Terrible.!

Ahhh its in the Coroflot listings, I’d rather not. Looking around on Reddit it sounds like this language is used on all their listings.

If you are mandating your employees work 50% more hours, then you better be paying them at least a 50% higher salary…which a quick rundown of their job site will tell you they are definitely not doing.

I guess props to them for being upfront about the fact that they’re exploiting their workers, but that doesn’t excuse them from exploiting their workers.

We’re in a post-shame world, folks :man_facepalming:

Operating at the bleeding edge of predictive health and biometric technology is not easy. Eight Sleep is an intense work environment. Our mission is extremely ambitious and we expect our people to move at an uncomfortable velocity.

Ironic isn’t it? For something that’s supposed to be relaxing and soothing. This musky/zucky faux macho bs is pervasive…

In defense of this, I’ve found some entrepreneurs assume because they dedicated their lives to building their company, that they need employees that will do the same. Whenever I ask these people for shares, all of a sudden the work hours become negotiable…
