The problem is not with the area of design itself, the problem is with the English Language. There’s only one word for design: “design”. In Russian language, there are two words for design. The first, “dee-zain”, which means a creation such as craftwork. The second is “proektirovaniye” - which means “project development”. So in Russia, “dee-zainers” are those who are creating craft pieces, while “project developers” are designing the products and interactions around them. The English language needs something like this to separate design into several different terms, and the profession will hopefully not be undervalued.
