Hello, my name is Alessandra.
I’m currently enrolled for a Ph.D. at the University of Malta with a project on smart pharmaceutical packaging. The aim is to create a design support framework that a packaging design engineer in the pharmaceutical industry can use as guidance when making smart packaging.
I’m actually in the process of my first phase of data collection where I’m basically extracting the requirements such a support framework would need. If any packaging design engineers out there would like to help, I’d appreciate it if you could fill in this 15 minute survey:
So post in one appropriate topic - with a detailed explanation and request, not in 3 topics. You are a new member, no contribution, why would any of us want to help you. Participate, then ask.
Hey All. Super long time lurker, first time poster.
I’ve been in design for roughly 20 years at this point, beginning by getting into school for drafting after so many years of being in trouble at elementary and secondary school for drawing instead of learning about other stuff (that wasn’t what I was drawing). Seemed appropriate to pursue this as a career option. I’ve since worked in several industries, starting in architecture and including a new product design position within the recreational off-road vehicle market, plus a couple of jobs where my peers were degreed engineers. I’ve done well, all things considered. Now I work for a large international company as a design coordinator who still gets into design to a certain degree, but also delegates and checks work done by the satellite offices that create the drawing packages for our product. Not quite product design, but since I work in steam/power generation, it’s arguably a stable industry to settle into. It’s been an interesting journey, and I often think of ways it could have gone differently as I very much have an interest in ID as well as other things like landscape architecture. I’m still very proud to tell people that I’m a “draftsman by trade” as it speaks so much to how I started and enjoy that it has the rich history that it does being such an old profession. Especially with having that connection to the old school board drafting side prior to learning CAD. Admittedly, I’m not a computer guy, and use them more so because the job requires it. I may also be an outlier to some degree as I didn’t really plan to be an engineer, and after spending time functioning as one…I still don’t want to! I just want to draw, man…
I think if I’ve learned anything, it’s that your passion and interest will ebb and flow, but ultimately, it’s just a really cool way to get to make money and provide the world with new things that (hopefully) make it a better place. I couldn’t imagine just filling out paperwork or being a spreadsheet jockey all day.
I’m Mona Peterson, a design enthusiast from Houston, Texas. I’ve always been fascinated by innovative design solutions and how they shape the world around us. I recently joined this amazing community to connect with like minded individuals and share my thoughts, ideas and learn from all of you.
Professionally, I work in packaging design but in my free time, I enjoy exploring creative projects, visiting art and design exhibits and diving into DIY ventures.
I’m looking forward to engaging in insightful discussions, exchanging ideas and growing as part of this community. If there are any must visit threads or tips for a newcomer, I’d love to hear about them!
I run a custom packaging website and I’m currently working on improving the user experience by showcasing pre-made packaging boxes for various categories, including cardboard, rigid, kraft, and mailer boxes.
I’m looking for some design inspiration and expert advice on how to present these boxes in an engaging and user-friendly way on our website. Specifically, I would love suggestions for:
Cardboard Boxes: Any creative ways to highlight customization options while maintaining simplicity and clarity.
Rigid Boxes: How to convey the luxury and premium feel of rigid boxes in a visually appealing manner.
Kraft Boxes: Tips on showcasing their eco-friendly and rustic aspects effectively.
Mailer Boxes: Best practices for displaying these in a way that emphasizes both functionality and branding potential.
I’m particularly interested in design techniques that integrate both aesthetics and usability, such as:
Interactive elements (like size selectors, 3D views)
Packaging-specific icons or illustrations
High-quality photography and minimalistic layouts
Options for adding logos/branding
If you have any examples or suggestions from your own experience or projects, I’d love to hear them!
