india

hey guys,

im considering doing my internship in india, good move, bad??? any suggestions, good companies, contacts?

hope to hear from u asap! cheers john

Why India? My limited experience of India and its industry is mostly in relation to the textiles industry, I have friends who visit quite a lot to visit textile samplers and so on…

As for ID consultancies, go to www.designdirectory.com and go ‘advanced search’ and search within India.

how about:

Tokyo
Hong Kong
Singapore
Taiwan
Korea

I honestly thought India may be a great location - is it not emerging as a major industrial design area, in all facets including CAD, design, maufacture…? Or is it that they are still somewhat behind so will not be a good learning experience during my internship?

Im still super keen but am hesitant with some feedback I’ve received. I’ve sent my application to the following design consultancies, I think they look good!

Design Directions - http://www.designdirections.net/
Icarus - http://www.icarus.co.in/
OK Play - http://www.okplay.in/
Mahindra - http://www.mahindra.com/
Tata Elxsi - http://www.tataelxsi.com/
Idea Product Design - http://www.ideaproductdesign.com/
Onio Design - http://www.oniodesign.com/
Band ID - http://www.bang.co.in/
Axiom Consulting - http://www.axiomconsult.com/
Desmania - http://www.desmania.com/
Nexus Design - http://www.nexusdzn.net/Product.htm
Ticket Design - http://www.designticket.com/

Any further suggestions or assistance would be greatly appreciated!
Cheers John

it may be good expeirence.

one way to find out!

At the very (VERY) least, you will have an awesome talking point on your resume, if your goals are fulfilled you will have great practical experience, and if everything aligns, you will have a life altering, mind blowing, horizon expanding transcendent journey… seems like a win win…

The one thing you can take from this is that none of us know much about India as an ID hub, which tells its own story. If it was me, I think I’d throw caution to the wind and go, either way you’ll get to travel around India which is awesome…

Check it out a little more, maybe if you can find a University in India who do an ID / Product design course, email them and ask them about the industry.

Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur looked very good to me when I looked into studying an Industrial Design Masters in India: http://www.iitk.ac.in/
Could try them, ask maybe about internship programs or such.
