Hyundai Ioniq 6

Well… he’s a designer at Hyundai, so he might have had a connection

I totally f****g aspire to be KB there. That’s awesome. No mistaking his daughter either!
Car is less impressive in those views, a bit generic rounded sedan with various appliques.

I signed up for the email list. I was hoping they would have one at the Portland Auto Show a few weeks back, but no luck. I’m curious how it will look in person.

I like individual parts of this Ioniq 6 - esp the rear door cut line - but all together its rather hard on the eyes.

I like the Ioniq 6 except for the rear end and how the waist line drops off at the rear. Makes it feel droopy.

The Polestar has been growing on me. The proportions feel like a Hot Wheels car and I think it’s a fun diversion for EVs.

Maybe it’s the press pics making it look like Porsche, but this view says it all. Sad.

Womp womp.

I do really enjoy the Ioniq 5 on the road and the general design treatment Hyundai and KIA are doing is refreshing, but this is definitely in the disappointment camp overall.

Judging by the comments design appears to be a fail. Too bad. I really liked the concept version of this

Probably has a really good aero Cd. And a nice personality. I can’t recall the last car I’ve seen with a downward sloping rear passenger window.

Hak Soo Ha, Hyundai’s Vice President of Design, pointed to the fact that the Ioniq 5, 6 and upcoming Ioniq 7 all look “radically different” from one another. That’s on purpose. Most other brands decide to go for a corporate face or shared design language, but not Hyundai. I think the brand is better for it.

What???

Some days ago a dealer demonstrator got parked up right next to my Model 3 in the IKEA underground car park. Possibly not on coincidence.

Let’s just say I walked away rather underwhelmed. It possibly needs some “soaking time” with me. It has vibes of a 1930ies Kamm-back special, mixed with late 80ies Pontiac. Gladly for Hyunday nearly all of these Pontiacs have dissolved by now.

The integration of the camera screens instead of conventional rearview mirrors cought my interest. But in comparison to the Tesla the Ioniq 6 feels overdone, to me. A little too much of everything. But there will be a good market for that, I am sure. Needs bigger wheels, then.

Not sure where Hyundai and Kia will be heading without the strict guidance of Schreyer. The portfolio seems to go back to rather flexible mediocrity. No more family ties within the range and a lot of decor of some sorts. Keen to see where the Swedes will be heading.

Where’s he going?

AFAIK he is on his way into retirement at 71 years. Having layed much of his former responsibilities into the hands of the next generation, namely Luc Donckerwolkes.

Yah, I think it is hard to understand how dang big it is. More like Model S size right? Also, with the smaller Aero wheels it just doesn’t seem to hang together.

I’ll be curious to see the N version… minus the silly wing

Out for a walk and saw this red one. Pretty color. Guy just bought it so couldn’t give any informed opinions.

Kia/Hyundai are doing well, but need to learn how design wheels.
