I have seen a lot of topics around the idea of career goals and ambitions. Where people try to assess where they are in their careers and how best to move forward to hit their goals.
I haven’t come across a thread that deals with creating career goals from the ground up though. From my point of view, I’m just out of university and working towards landing my first job. I have a number of ambitions that I want to achieve but having no realistic knowledge of the speed of the industry or how to get from point A to B in a time of X, my “career goals” are no more then a bullet pointed list.
How did you start defining your career goals? And what form are they now, is it a simple list, backed up by your knowledge of the industry or something a little more complicated than that?
It will take quite a bit of time, but it really helps to figure out what you enjoy doing and therefore where you want to go.
As for setting goals, set short term goals Like what do I want to do for the next 2 years? What do I want to do for the next 5? Don’t think too much farther than that at first.
Thanks, that book looks great! I’ll look into getting it.
Through some experience I’ve had and from the studio culture at Uni, I’ve got a good understanding of the working environment I thrive in and in general what type of work and type of company I want to get into. Just about getting a job the start that process
