Heat Staking

Can a flat thin metal part be heat staked to another flat plastic part?

Thanks

yes,

  1. as long as there is a post protruding from the flat plastic part, and a hole in the flat metal part.
  2. the plastic post would need to be the appropriate height to stand past the metal part, and allow enough material to be deformed around the hole metal part, larger than the diameter of the hole on the metal part

Will heat staking plastic to metal be as strong as plastic to plasti? I am especially concerned about the metal and plastic part coming apart from very tugging force.

…depends on the plastic…you will get better results with a thermal-forming plastic than a thermal-setting plastic.

with thermosets you’re not likely to get ANY results; they’ll burn, but they won’t melt (a basic requirement of staking operations).
