getting a design job?

what is the accepted route? random assaulting of employers with samples? getting someone on the inside to pass along your work? networking?

???

why not simply applying?
have no idea how it works with industrial design but I have always been represented by agencies that find em a job. Find out who recruits for who and then assault an agency.

how do you know who is hiring?

hey, fat chicks need love too and they are easier to please…

i’d imagine a lot of places that hire would advertise?

what’s the point? i’m going to throw this awesome party, but i am not going to tell anyone.

Check old ads on monster / craigslist / coroflot, etc. I know that employers sometimes leave positions unfilled for various reasons and then get (especially small companies) preoccupied- but if the right candidate contacts them…

Cold calling is a bit annoying. My personal opinion…

Sample mailers are nice if they get into the hands of someone with the authority of hiring. This being said - do some research / networking to find out who is in control of the companies you want to work for. Printed matter is much better than digital (my opinion again) – but including both is the best, especially if some though/craftsmanship is put into it. I just hired a part time GD because of a brilliant mailer she sent to me…

Hope this helps the cause!

unfortunately most the advertised positions seem to be for experienced positions. so it is just that i am not invited to that awesome party, i do not have the credentials…
