George Nelson's Birthday – today May 29

I found this “podcast” with him and Studs Terkel from 1962:

  • Part 1 — His impression of industrial design in Brasilia ,Russia, and American Main Street and how business is prioritized over what is better for people.
  • Part 2 — Consumerism, business in war and peacetime, destruction leading to creation, and what culture looks like.
  • Part 3 — What this generation will leave behind, the role of the individual in society, and the belief in things.
  • Part 4 — The importance of education, teachers, and how we learn as society changes.

From the 9 minute mark of Part 3:

Studs Terkel
Apparently, you said something in one of your writings that each culture leaves something considers most important. The Egyptians left the pyramids, the Romans the aqueducts, and the roads. What will we leave?

George Nelson
Well, I think large piles of junk. Rusty junk. This is my best guess.
