Flash of Genius film

Surprised nobody has posted this yet. Saw the trailer on TV last night.

from IMDB-

Based on the true story of college professor and part-time inventor Robert Kearns’ (Greg Kinnear) long battle with the U.S. automobile industry, Flash of Genius tells the tale of one man whose fight to receive recognition for his ingenuity would come at a heavy price. But this determined engineer refused to be silenced, and he took on the corporate titans in a battle that nobody thought he could win. The Kearns were a typical 1960s Detroit family, trying to live their version of the American Dream. Local university professor Bob married teacher Phyllis (Lauren Graham) and, by their mid-thirties, had six kids who brought them a hectic but satisfying Midwestern existence. When Bob invents a device that would eventually be used by every car in the world, the Kearns think they have struck gold. But their aspirations are dashed after the auto giants who embraced Bob’s creation unceremoniously shunned the man who invented it. Ignored, threatened and then buried in years of litigation, Bob is haunted by what was done to his family and their future. He becomes a man obsessed with justice and the conviction that his life’s work-or for that matter, anyone’s work-be acknowledged by those who stood to benefit. And while paying the toll for refusing to compromise his dignity, this everyday David will try the unthinkable: to bring Goliath to his knees.

trailer here. pretty on point for a few of the threads here speaking about invention and IP issues…

Looks well done… just what Ford wants right now I’m sure

I think I would have taken the 30 million dollar offer though… even in todays dollars.

I think the real flash of genius would be turning a story about wipers into an interesting movie! Wow.

Sounds kind of like Tucker, too. Looking forward to this one.

I heard about this when I was a kid and thought it was just one of those urban legends. What I was told is that he sued and won 100 million from Ford and then settled out of court with the all others (and I do mean all) for nearly the same amount of money.

I liked Tucker alot, I think I will go see this today. Whats the name of the movie where Tommy Lee Jones puts a Wankle into a pento or something like that?

dont need to see the movie, lived a vairation of it a few times

i remember this guy. my father was an automotive engineer and i also grew up in the detroit area about this time. my father worked at ford about the time this guy was worked over. i believe it was one of the reasons my father left that company, among many others.

the story was followed through the years by the detroit news.

i think this gentleman may have been a bit over zealous at the extent he carried this through, but i know his case helped my father a bit (and then my widowed mother) when he had gone contract later in his career.

so anyone seen the movie yet?

i was planning to go last weekend, but didn’t make it…
