Hello Fellow Designers my current work at the moment, and the start of a portfolio. @ the moment in the final weeks of Uni in DeMontfort (Leicester).
This is work that is finished, the new stuff will be posted as and when its completed. I think that the new stuff will superseed this work. If any one can remeber the Student Work post, this is an extension of that work.
Enjoy…
any comments, advice would be Ace.
Thanks Reuben
More Shots of the footwear.
Enjoy
Its great to see such a variety in a student’s footwear folio. Nice work.
Could you resize them to fit on screen and give a brief description of each? What type of shoe it is? Who it is for? That type of stuff.
I like a lot of your thumbnail sketches and loose color sketches. Upping your rendering skills would really make you a must hire (I hear this is not as emphasized in fashion footwear)
You’ll have no problem at all getting a job mate, that portfolio is excellent. Did you call the headhunters numbers I think I gave you?
Hopefully I’ll get to see your show in London.
HI Shoenista
Thanks for the comments, i did go and see one of them in South London, he said that the portfolio is a good start but he thinks it could be amazing with better layout and a more specific direction e.g trainers or what ever. But it was good to just get to speak to someone about my work. I really lack in work expirence, which sucks. i might need to look at getting a little before i go in to a job, but we will see.
At the moment just banging out the final project. Cant wait to get it over and out of the way.

Hotmix,
Your work is awesome. When I first saw your saddle shoe post I was initially skepitcal but as I scrowled down the page, I was completely convinced that I would rock your gear. Your thumbnail sketches look amazing too. I am trying to improve my drawing skills and it may be a simple comment but I really like your shading and coloring technique. It really makes your work convincing.
What school do you go to? Is your class geared around footwear/softgoods or is that just what you chose for your project? Your craftmanship is on point. I hope you get the job you’re looking for and keep us posted on what you are doing. - Hajime
Thanks man, Im at uni in Leicester @ DMU. in the 3rd year we pretty much
choose what we like, there are competitions that you can do work and a
portfolio assessment other than that We teach are selves pretty much.
With no course leader.!! at times it gets a difficult to produce shoes and
because we lack basic machines and with only 2 to 3 staff on, to get time
with them is very difficult. As the 1st and 2nd years need teaching. Its not
been a ideal form of education but hey i love the stuff i produce here and
hopefully i will get a 1st.
I use to be worried that i wouldnt get a job because im not product minded,
but now i dont care, if a company likes my work and thinks that im a good
talent then fingers crossed. We are have in 2 degree shows 1 in London
and 1 in leicester. If you are in the UK you should come.
Thanks for the comments

Damn Reuben, you did all that with no instructor! That’s crazy. Is that your school’s philosophy or something. . . circular learning? Is your specialty footwear? Are you mainly a dress/casual designer? Is there a group of guys that just to shoes?
I’m uber jealous of what you get to do on a daily basis. I want to get into sneaker design so I’m starting by working on my sketches. I go to UCLA but I am not a design major so alot of those classes aren’t open to me. Ill see what the local community college has to offers. Good luck with the competition. If you can, take pictures at that show and post them up so we can see what’s going on out there. Take it easy Reuben. - Hajime
hotmix- i really like your etnies model (the one that you actually made). especially since i hate etnies designs and would love to see some nicer stuff from them (and more original designs from skate shoes in general). the textures and colors are awesome.
may i ask how you produce your shoes? what kind of machines do you use? and how much would you say it cost to ‘produce’ each one?
i’m really impressed
We make all are shoes by hand , that way you have total control over the way it comes out. We have a technitian that sews up are final one, we make a mock-up to make sure the patterns are good and fits perfectly them we use are materials, leathers, fabrics etc. we have a cupboard full with lots of different stuff but its hit and miss trying to find something high quality.
We have a Skiver, (thins materials)
sander , removeing stuff and the we use a heater to apply stiffners and warm the glue we use. Leicester collage has lasting machines and loads of other cool stuff.
We are the Uni and we dont have any of that gear, but we still produce some Crazy stuff
if you ga to page 2 off this forum and search out Students prototype work you can see the process.
Thanks
