HOW CAN I MAKE A VERY SMOOTH FIBER GLASS SURFACES? IS THERE ANY METHOD ISTEAD OF USIN SAND PAPERS?
lay wax-paper over the surface after you have laminated it.
when the material is hard peel off the wax paper. you will still have to sand, but not as much.
some wax will transfer onto the fiberglas so wipe-down with solvent (acetone) several times and use a clean cloth with each wipe-down.
if you are trying to make flat surfaces laminate onto a piece of plate glass.
Really glossy finish is achieved by laying the fibreglass into a polished mould, normally you would gel-coat into the mould first then add glass, you can then buff the gel coat to a high gloss.
If you don’t use a mould the only way is to use peel ply (like finely woven nylon cloth) as a final layer. When the resin is hard you peel the layer off and reveal a smoother surface underneath.(similar to Lmo’s wax paper). You still have to sand to a very smooth finish…
There’s no really easy way to get a very smooth finish without some elbow grease…!
Hi, I’m trying to build Kayaks using laminated Carbon Fibre. Can you give me any hints, please?
All the best
