Not the greatest design, but my Mazda 3 has a mix of digital and analog gauges.

We need a law to ban the turn signal buttons. Why can’t the president just do that right now? Priorities!

“As of January 2026, Euro NCAP requires vehicles to feature physical buttons, stalks, or switches for five essential functions—including turn signals—to achieve a 5-star safety rating. The other mandated controls are hazard lights, windscreen wipers, the horn, and SOS/eCall functions. Manufacturers that rely solely on touchscreens for these critical tasks will now face point deductions in their safety evaluations, specifically impacting their “Safe Driving” score”

I can’t wait!

@Mr-914 that Mazda 3 cluster is nice indeed. I wish Mazda would get off their butts and make some decent EVs that stayed true to this kind of thinking in terms of experience.

This take is an enjoyable read:

After reading that, I thought, ‘maybe I’m too harsh’. I went back and looked again. Pininfarina is still open, right?

Re: Mazda. I wish they would get some EVs out, but I can’t blame them. They only have enough cash to make the switch once, so they need to hit the timing on the dot. I can’t wait though, I’m sure it will be good!

Thank you all for an interesting and very civilized discussion! My concern with this design is similar to Ive’s UX design, every detail is fighting to catch your eye. It’s visually exciting but distracting. I need Ferrari drivers to keep their eyes on the road

It probably looks great in the featureless all white universe that Ive seems to live in, but this bright red knob would be used how many times a drive?

It would be used C3 continuity number of times.

Maybe this is known, but this 1987 Subaru XT dashboard is bonkers

Sometimes I think I should try to find the last clean Subbie XT just for that weird interior. Now that’s cyber punk!

My eyes. This isn’t really real is it?

Yep, seems to be. I’m not a fan, but I would never be able to afford it anyway.
I understand the online hateful comments I’ve been reading.

But zooming out a bit, this is what goes through my mind:
Ferrari is now a publicly listed company, needs to please its shareholders.
Ferrari is trying to re-invent itself. Or does it just think it does?
It is design by committee.
I’ve seen plenty of Chinese designs in a very similar vein.
They need an electric car due to global car manufacturer rulings.
This will be the first Ferrari that wont appreciate after the initial sale.
What is the Ferrari ethos these days, and does this car fit the ethos?

I dont know man, consider me miffed and disappointed…
Maybe they are seeing something I dont, but this car seems to hurt the brand more than it helps.

Individual elements of design excellence, but fails to come together as a whole, and fails to become a “Ferrari”.

My feeling is that it was intended as an exercise to study different elements of the car, for new reference and inspiration, and was all packaged together into a car as an afterthought. (The proportions especially do not look intentional or refined)

There’s definitely great elements that Ferrari can adopt into other cars, as well as some elements I would like to see adopted back into product design. For example the tactile / touch combo interface, and the layered digital/analog dials.

I could envision Ives’ involvement being conditional of full creative direction. Or he’ll take his OLEDs and go home. Obviously wanting to make a mark, he explored the fullest range of possible expression for the brand, picked a direction and detailed that. Fate will determine if he chose well.

Not that this is an indicator of a good design, but the Ferrari stock price went down after the announcement.

In a “What Is Ferrari Doing?” and a “forgotten Concept Cars” crossover post, I submit the 2005 Maserati Birdcage concept. This would have mad such a nicer starting point for a Ferrari EV design:

Is it the Apple Car project that he somehow pitched and continued at Ferrari ?

that was literally my first thought as well…

I thought this was a pretty good take.

What other vehicles are following that ‘trend’? They listed the Jaguar thing. The AMG-GT is an odd departure from the original ICE car, but I wouldn’t call it an egotistic experiment.

Like I ranted in some other channel a few years ago: car design is essentially, useless from a human-centered perspective - its entirely egotistic. Maybe that’s the only way to read this egotistic experiment: as a ‘vehicle’ for the slick interior tech.

Someone said it looks like a video tape rewinder and I can’t unsee it.
