OMG boring
For those of us who grew up with Renault 4’s around the new 4 E-Tech seems like a good reincarnation of the original design. But the electric version of the Renault 5 earlier this year probably felt more nostalgic, people have fonder memories of that car.
Thoughts on the new Scouts? For me they’re…fine. I appreciate certain corners of the auto industry generally moving away from the swoops on swoops on swoops aesthetic of the last 20+ years, but I think I was hoping for something a bit more unique. These pretty much look like alternate reality Rivians.
Better looking than 99% of cars on the road? Yes. Timeless in similar ways as the original International Scouts? Absolutely not.
Haven’t pored over them too tightly and want to see it "in the metal’ but the stance and proportions seem very Rivian. Maybe its akin to most electric cars turning into crossovers? Or its driven by a perceived market need for smaller trucks. Its less cutesy than the R1X and hopefully better made; I see fogged-up tail lamps and mismatched panels on the R’s all the time. The hybrid option is kinda pandering but kinda smart, if complex.

I’ll have about 160K on my Raptor by the time this launches so I hope they keep to the features and price range by launch time.
Stance and proportions with both the Rivians and the Scouts (and other larger EVs for that matter) seem to have a lot to do with the fact that there’s a giant battery pack taking up a significant amount of under-body height. That proportion might just be the new normal until we make a significant leap in battery technology.
The gas range extender seems like an interesting idea in theory, but I have two big questions:
- Won’t this thing be a bitch to maintain? The average person is probably only going to use it for, what, a couple of trips a year? Seems like a gas engine/generator that only runs for a few hours every six months or so is just begging for trouble.
- Why in god’s name is it directly behind the rear bumper? Did the Ford Pinto teach us nothing?!
I love the Scouts. It’s like if VW made a Bronco. These kind of SUVs aren’t popular in Montreal, but I see a good amount of Broncos. Ford moved 100k last year versus 700k F150. I guess that’s niche, but not bad.

Wildly over-optimistic specs, start-up tech to attract early adopters but no means to sustain a user base, and oh… that Juicero designer guy with his hand on the hood almost guarantees failure to launch. This is a vaporware dream toy for San Franciscans to carry surfboards.
The comment I made was about the packaging and the necessity (or not) of having a huge vehicle due to the battery pack.

Nope sorry, Behar’s the only trigger here, but don’t worry your post was still decent. My point was that this truck doesn’t exist, so using it as an example of successful EV truck packaging is kinda moot. But does the world need more EVs like this? Heck yeah, but half the power, half the cost, half the passengers.
It should not be much smaller. It’s already the size of a Mini.
It can haul 4 x 8 sheets but why settle for less?

One of the founder worked on the Tesla Roadster battery and then a motorcycle. He should know a thing or two on what’s possible.
Well their latest PR blurb says they plan to launch ‘late 2025’ so we can put a pin in the viability of this concept until then. My ego is patient.
