Drawing using Programs

Hi,

I was curious how clean lines are achieved in digital drawings. My method is to zoom in up close and draw using brush/pencil pixel by pixel, adding weight where I want it to be shaded/darker and erasing for lighter areas. It seems a tad tedious, and is there any better method to approach this? I use Photoshop, and Alias Sketchpad Pro.

the solution to your problem is the program Illustrator. You want “vector” based drawing, that’s “clean-line”. No pixels, you can scale up or down without changing the quality. Photoshop is pixel based, basically meaning one point at a time. Vector programs give you smooth lines.

Thanks for the reply. I have illustrator with me, but haven’t got down to learning its functions and uses. Can anyone recommend a good place to start with (books, websites etc.)?
