Does anyone know much about Spinning Hat?

Hey,

Ive been quite lucky to have been offered 2 placements one at a large corporate and another at Spinning Hat (www.spinninghat.com)

I really like the products that Spinning Hat makes and i feel the placement will offer me a greater coverage of seeing a product into market however the company is much smaller in comparison and therefore i dont know if ill get the right experience?!?!

Any recommendations would be appreciated?

cheers
T

From their job offer that I’ve also found online, it seems like a total scam.

“Send in your ideas and we’ll contact you”, etc

I’m not 100% sure, but that’s my instinct, and I’m steering clear.

They certainly sell some fun and interesting products.

In this environment, I would go with the name brand on your resume.

Hey,

cheers for your input guys.

i dont think its a scam as the part you are referring to is about submitting your ideas as a freelance designer and getting a royalty for your ideas. It does say on their site

“We are aware of the problems faced by designers when protecting their intellectual property and we will email you a non-disclosure agreement to safeguard your ideas and give you peace of mind.”

I have been in for an interview and had written confirmation so its all ok. I think they are actively looking to find people to work with.

Having spoken to them they have told me they already work with many freelance designers on this basis. Certainly looks like a fun way of making money!

If you have a firm offer for a placement in a large corporation
(fortune 500 or equal) and you even consider to go to a place
that does “blood murder shower curtains” and sells them as
“designer items” you must be nuts and deserve no better.

It might be fun.

And it depends on where you see yourself in 10 years.

From the website alone this place doesn`t look like “industrial” design
to me.
