design project on Music... (any help?)

Hello friends, I am a student on design engineering and quite new here…

I need some help or guidance for a project on my school… The general idea is about music, and the professors asked us for doing some research and deciding for a work place to develop a design project…

Music is a very general idea, so I am a bit …lost in the information that there is out there… Has anyone any idea or worked somehow in this field area, so to help me on a bit?

I apologize for my English, as I am not a native English speaker!

Thanx for any responce…

live or recorded?

well, let me be more descriptive…

The design cource we do deals with industrial design as well as with systems design. So, the professors just asked in a more abstract way to think of ideas on a general subject regarding music… They told us that in the end, what we’ll have to make, would be either a product, but in a more general context of use and technology…

The final “product” wouldn’t just be a mp3-player, as an example, but sth beyond that… So, if we talk about music, we have to do a deep scan not only on technologies (because now it’s mp3, tomorrow may be sth else), but on trends, on environments of use, or primitives of what music means for people…

That’s somehow the way I try to figure the subject of the project… And I know that I have to face lots of things… So, there isn’t a strict briefing on that… it’s us, the students that we must deside what to do, as soon as we can get good knowledge and understanding of the “music”, as a meaning…

I hope I have given a more detailed description…

music is not democracy!!

in other words you can’t gather a concensus on it. although pop/top 40 music tends to portray that side of it, but essentially when you say music it only means two things:

1- sound
2- arrangement

sound is frequency while arrangement could be arbitrary or based on a system of compositions like scales and intervals.

this is the output.

the input is the thought process which the artist/s carry out through instrumentation.
