top ten programs an industrial designer must have!!!
urrmm. for me at least. here goes…
solidworks
rhino 3d
photoshop
freehand 9 / illustrator (doesnt really matter between this two. but never use freehandMX. looks like an illustrator interface. loses its charm)
poser
winamp!!!
norton?
i’m stump. guees thats all i need…
yeah i gues ten is to many - what about gadgets?
urmm…
1.good desktop for all those renderings and stuff.
2.handphone.
3.scanner/printer
3.music player!!!
4.internet connection (thats not a gadget)
5.a power book. not that i need it. i just feel like showing off…
yup.
Poser? Unless you can’t draw the human hand.
Poser. Because it makes modeling an object on a person in rhino or alias really easy. Keep the hand mesh and project curves. Not all that different from modeling footware.
i find poser unsatisfactory. the human looks rigid. guees old methods works best.(drawing)
poser - can it be used for solidworks 2004?
poser pro…export whatever file you want…iges, stl, ect. Just import the file
Here is my list
Pro/E Wildfire 1 or 2
(IDSX II, Advanced Assembly, and Photolux extentions)
SolidWorks 03 & 04
Rhino (for those forms Pro and SW just cant seam to get right.)
Photoshop 7 or CS
Illustrator 10 or CS
InDesign 2.0 or CS
GoLive (making DVD’s of focus groups and user-observations)
Word
Excel
Powerpoint
Flash
i’ve never use excel before. why does a designer need it?
I use it for creating costing templates, time lines, Gantt charts (sp?), and RP quotes when client wants RP billed separate from the design and development cost for sales tax reasons. Also used for creating charts and graphs to be placed in the research summaries and presentations.
listing is waste of time imo. but got email from designer friend in HK this am. he mentions that designers are starting to dump Alias in a big way and go strictly with Rhino. he started taking classes in some new designer program (bringing designers from many industries together) so he’s hearing more about whats going on out there. just wanted to pass that on fwiw.
I’m new here but I state that Rhino is in my book the most friendly.
Here’s something I did for fun:
Opinions?
Rhino
3D Studio VIZ
Solidworks
Photoshop
Premiere
Illustrator
PowerPoint
Then: (Designer Slave)

Now: (Management Scum)
