Critical Design Software ?

I am an industrial design student and will be graduating in May. I am looking to purchase the most important design software before I graduate [while I still get a student discount] and was wondering what you guys thought would be the most important to have for both full-time and freelance work. I would like to be able to do both Industrial Design and Graphic Design on the side. Obviously I need Adobe Creative Suite and Flash would be good to have also. How important is it to get a more desktop publishing oriented software package such as Quark Xpress? I know Quark is a lot easier to use for certain graphic design projects when compared to Illustrator but is it worth the extra money to have both?

Any tips you guys have would be great.

Thanks,
Micah
