coolest watch

Well it obviously depends on the kind of clothes you wear, i have a nike presto myself, and it is really cool and light, and it always attracts attention from people (alright less and less often).
I think the mini one looks good, though i agree there might be something tricky, because guys don´t usually like to see their own wrist hair through the watch, and you can see some with that model, so maybe it´s a bit less cool from an angle. Love it though.

I think a watch is only as good as the craftmanshipp that goes into it. Alot of watches push design envelopes that focus on aesthetics and trends, trying more to be different then focusing on the timeless craftmanship. That’s why I think watchmakers like IWC are awesome. They push innovation from the functional aspects of time, without sarificing the craftmanship and theory behind building a perfect timepiece. Of course they are expensive, but hey you pay for the history and attention to detail.

Okay like my previouse post had stated, I appreciate craftmanship; BUT I ALSO GOT TO RECOGNIZE THE PIMP ISH BIOTCH! lol.

The hottest new electronic gadget from Japan doesn’t take pictures, make phone calls, or require wireless internet to function. It’s the PIMP watch from luxury watchmaker Tokyo Flash. The PIMP watches (available in several unique designs) all work roughly the same way: You push a button, there are several seconds of random flashing from the super-high-powered LED lights, and then the time is displayed as a series of lights that only you will be able to decode. This solid stainless-steel watch also randomly flashes the LEDs between 6pm and 1am – the time that you are most likely to be out pimpin’. Each watch in the PIMP line goes for ¥16,000 (about $145), a steal given the craftsmanship and materials used. U.S. residents can get one by traveling to Tokyo and seeking out a fine jeweler, or by ordering direct through Tokyo Flash’s webpage.

Agreed, but you cant compare a “watchmakers” watch with a fashiony or branded one, I mean, the IWC and stuff (Tag Heuer rules for me) contain usually Swiss ETA movements, mechanical masterpieces which don´t require batteries, (the simple thought of it just makes my neck hair rise), and the rest are just plain quartz stuff, so they don´t target the same consumer.
But anyway most of these brands are starting to be partly produced/assembled in China (although more than 50% of the price of watch has to be made in switzerland, to show the “swiss made” tag), so I´m lately less carried away by the “craftmanship” stuff.

Have you ever seen the gears cut from little ass dies? It’s amazing that some watchmakers long ago could make such precise toolings to make these things. The little pendulum in a automatic watch is a memorizing site. You can actually buy an IWC skeleton and see the pendulum swing back and forth. In fact when I’m retired I’m going to buy one and stare at it all day every day.

haha i know what you mean, I also love the feeling of setting to zero the seconds hand in a mechanical chrono, the hand is running, you stop it and press the reset button and, …ZAS there it goes, I know its silly, but i just get high (it´s like moving the lever to pass the photo in an old leica or SLR camera, shivers down my spine)

For a cheap watch, Castiglioni’s 6000 series (altough I liked them better with the woven nylon strap):

For an expensive watch, the Ikepod Isopode:

For the classic , wafer thin, cadilac of watches, Patek Philippe:

dow317, IWC is quality stuff - the inside of the watch is as much a design masterpiece as the outside - I’m a big fan of a small italian manufacturer called Anonimo as well, and some bigger names like Panerai… From a design perspective, a tourbillon is a pretty amazing thing to see - like the Gerard Perregaux triple bridges… They’re expensive, and not mass produced, but still amazing… http://www.girard-perregaux.ch

Nixon baby.
Cool design.
Good price.
Good quality.
Good real world features and functions.

I miss the Spoon brand (Seiko/Pulsar).

I loved my SAM (Secret Agent Man) which started the whole vertical, reverse LCD trend that Starck and Behar appropriated. Unfortunately the plastic band wore and snapped, and there’s no possibility of repair or replacement!

(PS; that pimply, pasty-white arm belongs to some brit, not me!)

I also love my two Spoon “Air Pro” watches…The ones with the air-pump band. Soooo over the top. One is white with a dark green face and has a 100% stormtrooper aesthetic. I’d post an image, but Google imagesearch even came up blank!

I don’t like the big chunky bling that men are wearing these days. It’s like a muscle car for your wrist. I prefer refinement, like the original Movado Museum. It never screams status, but I’ll bet it opens doors like they were on air bearings.

I also used to have the watch posted by Mr-914, until it got bashed and the bezel broke. You can’t tell from the pic, but it is only about twice the thickness of a Swatch Skin. It looks even thinner because of the side profile.

This is my current watch. Light as a feather… can’t even feel it sometimes.

Check this out. Its the safe sex watch.
Well, the name says it all. The watch has a small compartment where you can store a… condom.

Thats a beautiful watch, what is it about the tourbillon mecha?why so expensive? any advantages? (apart from looking extremely cool and expensive).
Please do check this one http://www.ledwatches.net/ super cool
Another cool webpage is http://wristdreams.com/

Tourbilloin Mechanism- “A device in some mechanical watches that eliminates timekeeping errors caused by slight variations due to shifts in gravity when a watch changes position during use. The round carriage or “cage” of the tourbillon holds the mechanisms that rotate the wheels, and thus the hands of the watch, in a continuous rate of once per minute.” - like a gyroscope on a watch!

Its a $55K watch and not a lot people can make the movement

Thanks!- LED watches are making a comeback however LED technology consumes a lot of power…

Thnks Solo, real cool.
Sure about the LED consumption but who cares, they are freaking retro and cool.
