Where would I find said headhunter or recruiter???
Sorry to bring up an oldish thread but its got some good stuff in it.
Looking at some company sites they have a contact section with email and telephone etc, what are the views on just emailing through your CV and Portfolio on the standard contact email (Info@…com or Contact@…com)?
Or should I be ring up to get a name and maybe the correct email address so it goes straight to the right person?
Give them a call, you get get allot of info out of it.
The most succcessful formula (aside from the standard interview process) that I have seen is to offer to work freelance in studio at a firm that is local for you. It usually takes a while but when they get busy they will often give you a shot because you are local and can come in immediately and then go away when the work is complete. It is not easy. However if you can get in and do a good job they will often make a palce for you. I hope that this helps.
In an email to a company is it OK to state ‘I am currently looking for potential employment’ or should I rephrase it?
The joys of job hunting!
Yes, I think that it is fine to say that.
What titles do people put in the Subject title of emails when emailing about potential work?
just dont make the mistake of not doing 4 minutes research on the company first. Don’t put ‘I saw your website’ bla bla bla. Try to make your cover letter look like you spent some time investigating the design firm before you punt off your resume and cover letter. Cold call to find out who to send the resume to and mail them a hard letter. email is ok too.
How about “Regarding potential opportunities”, keep it simple and professional. In the body try to ask questions that will compel the reader to respond to your email.
keep it short, to the point, introduce yourself and your background and outline as specifically as possible what you hope to do for the company or what unique skills you have.
if you can also reference past experiences that relate, it is also good.
another good piece of advice is to follow-up. call within the week to see if they received the email or send a followup email if you havent heard back.
execs and studio managers are busy. persistance pays off and dont get discouraged if you dont hear from 50% of people you contact.
