Better topic area for Freelance discussion, this one or Business practices?
Anyone know who to write to at Core to get them to list “Freelance issues” under the discussion topic so we know which to use?
thanks.

I’ve always seen freelance issues posted in here? A seperate forum would be great.
Freelance work is employment, but this sounds like a “Business Practices” discussion to me. It might also get more exposure to others with “business experience” if it were located in that forum.
Perhaps a sub-group could be added to help funnel “freelance” issues into one “file” so to speak (would help locate past discussions when doing a “search”).
Of course this makes assumages that posters are familiar enough with the site to know that there is a Business Practices forum.
I’m just grateful that there is somewhere at all where we can discuss issues related to freelance. I do really value the frank discussions on this forum, elsewhere on the net, I don’t think people tend to be so upfront and honest.
We could all be sure if Core could list it under the one or the other of these areas or whereever it should go. Now it is not listed anywhere and it is a pretty big topic for discussion. Maybe one of the moderators could suggest this? This is what Core lists now:
DESIGN EMPLOYMENT
Job related questions and concerns
BUSINESS PRACTICES
Design management strategies, studio best practices, business advice, patents, and PR
I agree with the above comment that freelance is a business category so I think it would be best under Business Practices.
Awesome. TimF, can we get Core to list it under the Title so we all know for sure, since freelancing is a big topic? If you want me to write to suggest under their contact I will, but I’m just one forum user.
We (moderators) hear you IDguy88. If Tim already hasn’t, I’ll make the suggestion to the powers that be (unless they’re already watching this discussion…)
I agree that Freelance could use a proper forum, personally.
Freelance & Business Practices
To complete my thoughts on the matter…
“Design Employment” is oriented to “strategies oriented toward finding a job.”
“Freelance” is self-employment … aka: being “in business”.
Either way, we’re all in the business of getting ourselves paid.
First - I am going to let one of the other powers that be move the topics over. I have not figured out how to do that. guess I need more training.
Second - Freelancer - Wikipedia Great description on Freelance and even some history on the word.
I rather prefer the description as a “warrior for hire”. …
For me, the most important thing is that whatever MAIN TOPIC it goes under, whether BUSINESS PRACTICES or DESIGN EMPLOYMENT, freelancing is listed under as a SUB-TOPIC. Doing this will take all the guesswork out of know where to post a new topic related to freelancing.
Is it really that big of an issue?
While it seems to fit more under business practices, Design Employment is a much higher traffic forum. Perhaps they should be merged into one?
I don’t think it is a big issue. This is the first I’ve heard of it.
Design Employment is about getting a job. A Freelancer has a job, they are looking for work. As such, related questions should be under Business Practices.
I’m fine with adding Freelance/Consulting to the description -
BUSINESS PRACTICES
Design management strategies, studio best practices, business advice, patents, consulting, freelancing, and PR
(a bit long perhaps).

Done.
What happened? I don’t see anything different.

“done” … . figuratively speaking.

Nuthin’ left to it, but to do it…
