anyone using linux?

I was wondering if there was a way of increasing the performance of my workstation, and started looking at linux as an alternative to windows…

I read that you can run windows inside of linux, so I guess I could use all of my current software (mainly solidworks)…

So, would this translate in any improvement, or the fact that I need to run windows inside to run my SW would ruin it all?

Anyone using linux as the main OS, and runing soft straight in linux, without having to port it to windows? If so, how does it compare to XP?

G…intrigued…

Theres no reason whatsoever to use Linux for productivity reasons.

Windows is extremly stable if you have a well built machine and a clean software image. Running it inside of Linux makes it slow, unstable, and mostly uncompatible. You’re asking your PC to run all of the usual applications PLUS an entire seperate operating system. The same goes for trying to run stuff on a Mac without hard booting into Windows.
