Another One Bites The Dust - Starbucks edition

if you want to talk about other good coffee brands, 'Tim Horton’s" is one - most Canadian’s I know are fanatical about it.

It’s somehow integrated into the Canadian lifestyle and identity, maybe because it’s founder is a homegrown Hockey legend. Also known for reasonable prices, something Starbucks could improve on

Yes, Tim Horton’s is somehow a Canadian Institution. Not really sure why on some level. It’s pretty much the anti-thesis of Starbucks. Terrible design and spaces, bad service, not good quality coffee, and not a 3rd place to hang out unless you are maybe over 60.

Maybe somehow close to Dunkin’ Donut’s for the US? I’m not that familiar with it.

Though I’ve heard that Canadian Border officials sometimes ask people who claim to be Canadian “what is the Number One coffee chain in Canada?” and if you don’t get Tim Horton’s you are probably not Canadian and have some more questions to answer!

Yes, agreed Timmy’s is the antithesis of Starbucks… and their coffee gives me gut rot.
Their tea, however, best cuppa in North America… hands down.

If you’re looking for a coffee shop to hang out in, what about Coffee Time ?

pretty funny as all of them are selling you stale, cheap, blended coffee and you gladly pay top bucks…guess branding works after all

Excellent execution of the new identity. As I suggested, they are really owning the green.

not as good however-

Hope they can transition to a more modern feel. I’ve always disliked the fake quaintness of faux travel posters, bean sacks, and cutesy handwriting fonts. Though I’m sure the usual rich mommies who populate the place are happy with it.

she needs nipples

R you beat me too it. I love this!! When I saw the logo by itself I was a bit skeptical, but seeing all of this together I have to say looks awesome. Nice use of an icon. Which is interesting given that the argument was around if the mermaid is really an icon of Starbucks.

I like this cleaner feel too.

I also just realized I’m drinking Tribute blend out of the revised graphic cup and sleeve as I type this. Hadn’t even noticed.

apparently the papers in Prague are sponsored by Starbucks

People hate starbucks like they hate Dave Matthews Band.
They got really popular to the point where it became cool to not like them.

I used to not like starbucks but it’s either grown on me or their coffee is better then it used to be. I happen to live by a few high end coffee shops that take 10min to make a cup of coffee for you and honestly I prefer Starbucks.

And starbucks is 100x better then dunkin donuts. Dunkin Dontus is the match to Tim Hortons.

As for the new updated logo, I was not a fan at first but I am liking it a lot more now. A lot of minimalist logos that have popped up in the past few years come off as “store brand” but this is a nice evolution.

I’d say it’s more because Dave Matthews band makes bland music for people who don’t like music, and starbucks makes bland coffee for people who don’t like coffee.

Its been quite a while since I first read about this updated logo, and I did not reread the article cited by the OP, but nobody has mentioned the huge savings of switching from 2 color printing to one color on the billions of paper cups and sleeves they produce each year.
Starbucks basically just cut their printing costs in half.
That justifies the logo change.

good point

I thought I took a pic, but can’t find it on my iPhone.

I don’t know if this is everywhere, but I recently saw at the SB in HK airport that they were having a sale on “Classic Edition” mugs and items. It was just the old logo (and by old I mean the one that was in use 3 months ago, some some limited edition original logo with the nipples)!
